INSPIRED FROM “ENTR’ACTE”, A FILM BY RENÉ CLAIR (1924)

PHOTO_PM

This unusual new quartet — the idea was born out of a residency at the Atelier du Plateau under the theme, “Directors who filmed Paris” — will see the light in April 2014, and the format was chosen by violinist Théo Ceccaldi as a way to explore the silent movies which came out of Surrealism and Dadaism in the 1920s.

Particularly inspired by filmmaker René Clair’s works Entr’Acte the violinist mirrors the director’s universe with composing that is singular and poetic. Together with Alexandra Grimal, Ivan Gélugne and Florian Satche — like Ceccaldi, all three are improvisers united by a common passion for multidisciplinary projects — the quartet performs a reinvented soundtrack in which the films of that great silent era meet the compositions of an artist of today.
The resulting universe is both rough-cut and contrasted, with foundations that lie in research into innovative forms, the richness of acoustic timbres and a broad spectrum of nuances.
