The ONJ joins forces with three brilliant female composers for a unique dive into 1970’s progressive rock. From Pink Floyd to Genesis, to King Crimson and Henry Cow, the orchestra will pay tribute to the mythical bands whose works have left a deep imprint on several generations.
Borrowing its title from a composition by British band King Crimson, Frame by Frame is a fresh interpretation of songs by some of the emblematic figures of a musical genre born in the fever of the late 60’s: Progressive rock. A rock that cuts loose from its original form to innovate with rhythms, sounds, and lyricism, drawing from orchestral and traditional music as well as jazz.
This movement and its experimentations take the listener on one surprising adventure after another and offer an ideal playground for the orchestra’s soloists, over arrangements by Airelle Besson, Sylvaine Hélary, Sarah Murcia, and Frédéric Maurin, all of whom were heavily influenced by these striking universes. Through this new production penned by these four singular composers, the ONJ will have you rediscover the worlds dreamed up by these pioneers, revisiting their work through the prism of a full orchestra.
«Their music carried us through childhood. Even though our journeys have led us to other genres, these groups are forever etched in our musical genes.» – Frédéric Maurin
